It’s 300 miles to drive around the big island. If you want to do it, it only takes 5 hours to drive around the Big Island. But it’s more sense to spend a little more quality time for each spot, you can spend a whole day in Big island. The island is not very big but it does have a lot of great locations to go.
Since we travel with friends and their kids this time, it’s to difficult for us to keep driving. Mostly of time, we stayed near Kona. We found this beautiful beach accidentally in Kona. It’s called Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park, a very beautiful small beach. We went there in the morning to help our friends to take some family portraits. https://www.yelp.com/biz/kaloko-honokohau-national-historical-park-kailua-kona
It’s tiny but the small is so clear. There are not many people around, we feel it’s like a private beach.
We have been stayed in Kona for most of time. We decided to take a longer drive across the island to the other side. The city is called “Hilo”, another major town in the island. It took us 1.5 hour to get there. It has some beaches, parks, mostly they have some more historical shops and restaurant.
We found this “Pineapples Island Fresh Cuisine” in the center of Hilo. It was so popular, took us 30 minutes to wait for the seats. But it’s a very traditional Island food, we want to give it a try. https://www.yelp.com/biz/pineapples-island-fresh-cuisine-hilo
They have pineapples everywhere, true island vibe.:P
Even they have pineapple juice in real pineapple!
Variety of choices and portion is great. A lot of seafood selection, pork rib and beef burger is very tender.
After the dinner, we drove back to Kona. Funny thing, the beach we went in the morning, it was so beautiful. We decided to go back there at the sunset time. Wow…. See how beautiful it is!
