Hong Kong Trip

We were lucky enough to go to shoot a wedding in Hong Kong. We have never been there before and it’s the very first time. We have seen a lot of Hong Kong hooligan movies and we found it must be an interesting and fascinating place. In the beginning of planning, it’s very difficult. However, with the recommendations from some Hon Kong friends, we were getting better and better. We also use our best location scouting method, “google my map” for the planning so it’s not too bad.

You can create “google my map” in your google drive as long as you have a google account. Hong Kong is relatively not that big. We tried to map the key places first, the airport, two main area (Kowloon and Hong Kong island), Kennedy town (where we live), Le Meridien Cyperport (the wedding place). We also plan the route from airport to Kennedy Town is about 38 km, 30 min drive. I would say Hong Kong is a place relatively not that big.

First, how to go from the airport (Hong Kong International Airport, HKG) to the place we live, Kennedy Town? Actually, the public transportation MTR (Massive Transit Railway_ is super easy in Hong Kong, especially leaving HKG. For tourist, they also have 3 day airport express pass, which you can take unlimited MRT, Light rail, and MRT bus for 3 days plus one or two journey from or to HKG. I believe this is the best option for the tourist. http://www.mtr.com.hk/en/customer/tickets/travel_pass_ael.html

Here is some pictures on the air of Hong Kong.

We took the Green line, red line, then blue line, finally get to Kennedy Town. Good thing that where we live is not too far from the Kennedy town station so its not too difficult for us to travel with two luggage. However, if you want to save some time or you have more luggages, you can just take the green line to Hong Kong Station. After that, you can take a taxi or Uber to Kennedy Town. Yes! Hong Kong has Uber, too, it’s the same app you use in US! We even took a Tesla Uber when we go from Hong Kong Station to Kennedy Town. In Asia, the taxi and uber rate is relatively not very expensive, same as Uber. The alternate way could save you some effort to move up and down in the public transportation and don’t cost too much extra.

Since we went there for work and only stayed for 4 days. We didn’t have chance to go many places but we did plan and find some places worthy to go. We tried to focus in Hong Kong Island. We did take the ferry from Hong Kong Island (4) to Tsim She Tsui (5). It was super fun. And the rest of the time, we stayed at Hong Kong Island. Hong Kong is not a big place but you could find a lot of fun place to go.

Hong Kong likes everyone coming to see their beautiful Victoria Harbor. They have all the tall buildings on the Hong Kong Island side to light up for a 3 D light show, it’s also called the symphony of the light. It’s every night at 8pm for about 10 minutes. You can see it very clear at the view point on Tsim She Tsui (5).  More information is here. http://www.discoverhongkong.com/us/see-do/highlight-attractions/harbour-view/a-symphony-of-lights.jsp

We took the ferry, this was what we see on the other side! It’s very beautiful, too.

One of the day we stay in Sheung Wan of Hong Kong Island around (1) and (2). We went to the another Ferry Terminal (3). Here are the view of the Victoria Harbor in the morning. You just always see the tourist everywhere all the time.

Then, we went to the city, took the MRT going to the City and walked a lot on the streets. It’s just a very different place to us. It’s super crowded everywhere. But I believed it’s also the beauty of it. You see a lot of stuff, doing shopping, eat a lot of different foods. Here is around Central-Mid Level Escalator (1). It’s the biggest outdoor escalator in the world, how amazing it is.

You could also find a lot of interesting shops here. The buildings are also very special, a very combination of modern and traditional. When we walking around, we accidentally found this interesting store ” Goods of Desire”. They actually have several shops in the whole Hong Kong. Their specialties  is putting traditional stuff into modern way, especially for Hong Kong. It’s a great place to have a look.

Another night, we went to the most famous tourism place, the Victoria Peak, we took the Tram from (6) and go to (7). It’s unbelievable that so many people here, especially it’s a weekday. People were waiting in the line to take the tram and go up to peak before the sunset. It took us almost 2 hour standing in the line just to take the tram. It would say it’s really worthy but it was just so cold on that day, we were almost going to give up!

Hong Kong is a very beautiful place, we love it so much. We didn’t have bus time to explore more. We would definitely come back. In the end, here are some pictures of the Le Meridien Cyberport.

The beautiful view inside the hotel.
